The next BSMC will be on:
Friday 24 September 2010, downstairs at the Coffee Lounge on Navigation Street (map)
The listings are on Upcoming and Facebook – if you’d like to add yourself to say you’re coming then people will know to look out for you.
We’re just in the process of confirming a sponsor, so hold tight for that. However, if you’d like to sponsor a BSMC event and get your name known/show off a thing you’ve made in front of a crowd of smart and savvy people then get in touch.
Also on 24 September is the Macmillan Coffee Morning. We might do something for that – we’re just looking into it.
Got something you want to talk about?
We get a good mix of people coming along, so if you want to talk about something in particular then there’s probably someone else who wants to do the same – chats about alternate reality, coworking spaces, how to improve council consultations have all gained traction at the BSMC.
Drop whatever’s on your mind in the comments and we’ll see about finding those other people for you.

The next BSMC will be on:
Friday 27 August 2010, downstairs at the Coffee Lounge on Navigation Street
The customary listings are on Upcoming and Facebook – add yourself to say you’ll be coming and people will be able to know to look out for you.
Coffees (and cooler drinks) will be provided by this month’s sponsor News Dash:
News Dash is a project to help community organisations tell their stories, using online and offline methods. It’s being produced by Meshed Media and is part of Say Hello, a Hello Digital project.

You’ll be asked to sing for your supper drinks – nothing too tricky, but you might be asked to give a leave a tip for how a community organisation or charity might use social media to help achieve their aims.
Remember, you can now also follow Birmingham Social Media Cafe on twitter here.
See you there…

The next BSMC will be on:
Friday 30 July 2010, downstairs at the Coffee Lounge on Navigation Street
The customary listings are on Upcoming and Facebook – add yourself to say you’ll be coming and people will be able to know to look out for you.
This month’s sponsors has just been confirmed as Rhubarb Rhubarb, the photography training and development agency. Coffees and teas will be on them so come down and say hi.
As an added bonus, as part of a series of events Rhubarb Rhubarb are running over the next few weeks, there will be a seminar on Thursday 29 July at 1pm and BSMC folks can get tickets for half price (see below):

Now that the whole world is blogging, tweeting and Facebooking, what does this mean for the image? Is this obsession with technology for pleasure, self promotion or the hard sell? Does it begin with creativity but end up being financial? If you give more, do you get more back? Are there really free marketing possibilities and what do they look like? How do you integrate the demands of sharing technologies into your life and business? Where do creativity, well being and a sense of community live in your world? What will the fine art of the future look like and who will be making it, showing it, and where? How will artists be able to find their way through this myriad of electronic riddles and live to tell the story?
Speakers include Simon Roberts, Christian Payne and Mark McPherson.
Tickets are £20 for most people, but there’s a 50% discount for people who hear about this event via the BSMC. Just get in touch with Lorna Mary-Webb at lm@rhubarb-rhubarb.net, tell her we sent you and claim your £10 ticket.

As usual, the next BSMC will be on:
Friday 25 June 2010, downstairs at the Coffee Lounge
The customary listings are on Upcoming and Facebook – add yourself to say you’ll be coming and people will be able to know to look out for you.
At this point, a quick thank you to Screen WM who have confirmed that they’ll continue supporting the BSMC – they’re this month’s sponsor, so teas and coffees will be on them.
Thanks also to everyone who came to the last get-together. It was good to see yet more new faces and to hear afterwards that people found it useful. After asking around it seems that people are still using the BSMC to get to know each other, find people to work with and discuss better ways of doing what they’re doing. That’s the idea!
Hopefully, I’ll see you down there again next time.
In the meantime, Digital Brum is worth a look to see what other ‘digital’ events are happening.

The first Birmingham Social Media Cafe meet-up of the new year will be at:
10am, Friday 29 January 2010 at the Coffee Lounge
Please do come along, whether you’re a regular attendee or it’s your New Year’s resolution to find out what all this social media nonsense is about – as ever, all are welcome.

Digital Brum is a good place for keeping up with other similar events that are going on around the city, but it’s a bit quiet just at the moment. Maybe try browsing the various meet-ups on the ‘Other events‘ page.

Usually the BSMC meets on the last Friday of every month. Unfortunately that’d make the next one on Christmas Day, so December’s meet-up will be brought forward a week and will take place on:
10am, Friday 18 December 2009 at the Coffee Lounge
Which would seem sensible. Getting the coffees in will be the good people of the Cornwall Street Media Law Group.

November’s meet saw the launch of the Canvas Birmingham website as part of Birmingham’s City Of Culture 2013 bid as well as a welcome visit from a Chief Inspector. This month? It’s anyone’s guess.
Sign up (if you like – it’s helpful, but not obligatory) and come on down:
In the afternoon there’s a few options. What with it being too early in the month to go running around looking for last minute presents, I’m sure a few people will be up for heading to the Frankfurt Christmas Market for a glass of something refreshing.
That might be a nice festive primer for the return of Twitpanto at 2pm, organised by Jon Bounds and this year sponsored by the Hippodrome.
Alternatively, Birmingham City University are running an event at the Coffee Lounge from 1pm on the subject of Procuring Social Media.

This month’s Birmingham Social Media cafe meet-up will be at:
10am, Friday 27 November 2009 at the Coffee Lounge
All you need to do is come along, ask the nice staff for the drink of your choice and then head downstairs to meet everyone else. Last month there was yet another great turnout of interesting people. Most pleasing was the number of times I overheard the phrase ‘Let me introduce you to…’.
This month’s sponsors are Fierce, purveyors of contemporary performance art and producers of the internationally renowned Fierce Festival.

There’s no need for invites, tickets or anything, but please do let us know you’re coming, either:
